Very often in our work, we come across children with disabilities who have feeding difficulties and who are not attended to by any program. One reason, among several, is because we, as humanitarian workers, do not know which advice to provide to help these individuals and at the same time, make sure we do no harm. This tool is a first step to address and overcome this challenge.

Purpose

This tool has been specifically designed to ease the screening/management/follow up of children with feeding difficulties/disabilities. We recommend it to be used by frontline and community health workers who are in direct contact with children presenting feeding difficulties/disabilities and their caregivers.

After selecting the age range of the child, the tool will then drive the user through four (4) stages of the patient journey with specific advice & actions at each stage:

  • Stage 1: ASSESS the health and nutrition status and oral structure of the child
  • Stage 2: ANALYSE functional feeding concerns and ACT giving advice to caregivers
  • Stage 3: APPRAISE the response to the feeding strategy
  • Stage 4: ASSIGN to complementary program
The tool is accessible both ONLINE and OFFLINE, as a searchable pdf you can download and even print, if needed.
